Are you already in law enforcement and feeling like your career is stagnant?

Are you looking for new professional opportunities and challenges?

Are you interested in specialty assignments and advancement opportunities?

    Is Community Policing your thing?

Then Westbrook PD is the department for you…

With current open positions, The Westbrook Police Department is seeking lateral transfer officers to fill full-time police officer positions.

    Some facts about Westbrook PD:

EXCELLENT BENEFITS PACKAGE: 20-year retirement under MPERS; competitive salaries and steps; specialty, educational, military, and physical fitness stipends; generous vacation and sick leave accruals and usage; low employee contributions to health and dental care; and an 8.5-hour work schedule that provides five days off every thirteen days.

BENEFITS OF TRANSFERRING TO WESTBROOK PD: Transfer candidates will be placed on the contractual salary and vacation leave scale at the rate equal to their years of full-time law enforcement experience. Successful candidates that are academy graduates with 5 years of full-time law enforcement experience receive a $14,000.00 hiring incentive, paid out in two installments: $7,000 upon final job offer and $7,000 upon successful completion of the one-year probationary period.

CURRENT HOURLY PAY RATES (July ’20): From $22.66 your first year, with annual increases working up to $26.95 at five years, $27.90 at nine years, $28.83 at 12 years, $29.49 at 15 years, and $30.05 at eighteen years. --- Educational, military and specialty stipends are added to the base salary rate, increasing the hourly rate even more.

OPPORTUNITIES AT THE WESTBROOK POLICE DEPARTMENT: Career development opportunities are available through specialty assignments (drug agents, domestic violence investigator, detectives, school resource officers, canine officers, tactical team member, crisis negotiator, motorcycle patrol, bike patrol, and traffic car) and promotional opportunities.  Our training program is progressive, with many opportunities in-house and by attending classes throughout the region.  There is ample opportunity for overtime, with numerous patrol shifts, outside details, and concerts at the newly opened Maine Savings Pavilion.  Outside detail pay rate is $55.00 an hour.

Our department of 43 sworn officers serves and protects a population of roughly 19,000 residents. Adjacent to the City of Portland, our officers handle a steady volume of calls for service and self-initiated activity.  Combined, officers handle nearly 35,000 calls for service annually. We are a community policing oriented department, encouraging officers to be self-motivated and active in the community, and are looking for civic minded candidates with demonstrated initiative and strong communication skills.

SELECTION PROCESS: Resume submission, interview, physical agility test, background investigation, polygraph, psychological exam, and medical exam. We are not looking for perfect candidates…we’re looking for honest candidates who are reasonably physically fit and still have a passion for public service.
