Important Notice Regarding Membership Dues
Don't Forget To Sign Up For The 2012 MAP Annual Awards Banquet
See "MAP Banquet" Page For More Details
The
13th annual MAP Awards Banquet is quickly approaching and here are
some important reminders to your members:
You should have posted your banquet signup sheet that was sent out in November. Although there is no cost to individual MAP members and their 1 guest to attend the event, we require a headcount of those attending, as we are charged per plate. Please do not sign up to attend unless you are committed to coming to the banquet: If you are not sure, DON’T SIGN UP.
The
deadline for unit Attendance headcounts is FRIDAY JANUARY 20th. Please email or leave a message at the MAP
office with the total number of members and guests, including award recipients.
MAP Vice Presidents will be contacting units as well to make sure that a count
has been entered, even if you have no one attending. In addressing concerns
brought to the board concerning attendees’ behavior from last year’s event,
the board will be taking a strict zero
tolerance approach to negative individual/group behavior during the banquet.
The banquet is meant to be a social event, but it is also a night to honor the
duty and sacrifices of our peers and they deserve the same respect from their
fellow members as do all the guests who attend.
As those who have attended Award Banquets in the past, there is always a raffle for various prizes including items donated by our fellow organizations such as the Maine State Trooper's Association and the Maine Atate Law Enforcement Association. We have been extremely fortunate as well to have many of MAP's local units step up to the plate with donations ffrom their areas. This year the Raffle will benefit the MAP Charities Fund.
To help boost the Charity fund; any local unit or organization that would like to donate a raffle item please notify me by email so that I can record it and then you can bring it to the event. If your local is not attending and can still donate an item please let me know and it can be mailed or brought to the MAP Office. Items can include departmental/union memorabilia/merchandise, gift certificates, merchandise, etc. All donations would be greatly appreciated and is our only source of income to replenish the charity fund.

Maine Troop Greeters
Bangor International Airport, 287 Godfrey Blvd. Box 6, Bangor, ME 04401
September 21, 2011
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Bangor, ME. … On Saturday, September 24, 2011 three of the state’s largest police labor organizations will present the Maine Troop Greeter organization with a donation of three (3) new laptop computers complete with built-in video cameras and Skype software for the Troop Greeter room, which will allow troops to contact their loved ones through the Skype program. The presentation of the laptops will take place at the entrance of the TG room, on the second floor Domestic Terminal at Bangor International Airport at 11:00 am. On hand for the presentation will be Paul Gaspar, Maine Association of Police (M.A.P.) Executive Director along with Steve Webster, M.A.P. President and Joseph Aliberti, President M.A. P., Retired. Representing the Maine State Troopers Association (MSTA) will be Ted Millett, Board Representative and representing the Maine State Law Enforcement Association (MSLEA) will be Tamson Ross, Vice President for the association.
In a letter announcing the donation to the Maine Troop Greeters, Mr. Gaspar stated: “At the Armed forces Day Open House in August of this year, it was apparent how popular our (MAP) original donation of one laptop with video capabilities was to the Troops. It was at that point that M.A.P. pledged to donate another 3 laptops for this purpose. Working with our fellow law enforcement labor organizations (MSTA and MSLEA) we part-nered to ensure the greeters received these new laptops in support of our service men and women. As law en-forcement officers we identify with the strain service has on our troops and their families and if this donation can help in some small way to connect them to their loved ones, then our goal has been accomplished. Our or-ganizations are proud to provide these laptops in support of the incredible work being done for our troops by the Maine Troop Greeters and Bangor International Airport.” Please join us on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 11:00 am in the Troop Greeter room at Bangor International Airport as the Maine Association of Police, the Maine State Troopers Association, and the Maine State Law Enforcement Association honor the Maine Troop Greeters with this donation.

New "Chapter" For MAP President Steve Webster

MAP President, Police Officer and now Author, Steve Webster takes you behind the scenes and beyond the headlines of a law enforcement career that has spanned over 20 years. In One Promise Kept, Webster reveals what is bubbling beneath the surface as he faced the trials, tribulations and triumphs that every cop encounters.
Advance Praise for "One Promise Kept"
Steve
Webster’s “One Promise Kept” is an insightful and poignant view of the
other side of the badge that is rarely shared with the public. In a 24 hour news
cycle where only law enforcement’s lesser moments see the light of day, this
story shows the constant balancing act for police officers in hardening
themselves against the horrors that normal people will never see and retaining
their human compassion. Amidst death, addiction, human frailty and despair, one
detective draws upon his life’s experiences and lessons learned to bring about
justice for a young girl. Set amid a single crime that changes his life, we meet
through Webster’s eyes, a gallery of junkies and killers, heroes and mentors,
met during a lifetime of service to his country and community.
“One
Promise Kept” depicts the too often unnoticed sacrifices made by the men and
women who serve in law enforcement. It will evoke a range of emotions for the
reader and give them a better understanding of the human being behind the
uniform. It should be required reading for all new police officers before they
hit the streets in their cities and towns.

A CALL TO HELP RECOGNIZE THE SACRIFICES OF OUR NATIONS VETERANS:
THE
MAINE
MILITARY MUSEUM & LEARNING
The old engineering
building located in Mill Creek Park in the City of South Portland is now the
home of military artifacts and uniforms honoring Maine veterans from all wars
and of peacetime service. The centerpiece will be the largest display of Vietnam
POW items ever seen in the United States, comprised of actual POW uniforms and
artifacts made in prison which were smuggled out at release, such as a small
Christian Cross, a bamboo rosary, the Chinese lock & chain used to hold a
prisoner in his cage, secret writing on toilet paper and cigarette wrappers, art
work done after Homecoming and much, much more.
I currently have two major
displays at the Smithsonian Museum, (American Museum of History and the Air
& Space Museum) in Washington, DC., one at the Richard M. Nixon
Library in California, one at Naval Air Station Lakehurst, NJ, with a major
upcoming exhibit on Ford Island in Pearl Harbor, as well as items at the
Wright-Paterson AFB Museum.
MAP's
members are invited to participate in
this great effort to honor our veterans. If you have uniforms, patches, insignia, medals,
war souvenirs, books, paperwork, truly anything military, which are currently
gathering dust in attics and closets, please consider donating them to the
museum. Here in this museum your artifacts will be
displayed with your name and thus your service will be forever honored.
The items being requested
are not limited to Maine veterans only, but to anyone who served this nation,
making this a special place for future generations to learn your story and that
of your families, not Hollywood’s version.
Monetary
donations are also gratefully accepted and are 501 (3)(c) tax deductible.
Donations should be made out to:
MAINE MILITARY MUSEUM
AND LEARNING CENTER

“I was that which others did not want to be. I went where others feared to go, and did what others failed to do. I asked nothing from those who gave nothing, and reluctantly accepted the fact of eternal loneliness should I fall. I have seen the face of terror and felt the stinging cold of fear. I have loved, cried, suffered, and hoped, but most of all, I have lived times others would say were “best forgotten”. At least some day I will be able to say that I was proud of what I was - A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER!” (Source; Unknown Author)
